Despite climbing to sixth place on Alaska’s all-time wins list among Division I wrestlers and winning 71% of his 118 career matches, Levi Hopkins of Palmer doesn’t consider himself to be an all-timer.
To achieve that status, he said, means he’ll have to become an All-American. Only three Alaskans have done that, which is why Hopkins believes they are in a class by themselves.
“In my mind, for me to break into the all-time list and cement my legacy in state history I need to become an All-American this year,” said Hopkins, a Campbell University graduate student.
The 22-year-old former Colony High standout has got his work cut out as Hopkins enters the weekend ranked 34th nationally at 197 pounds; the top eight in each weight class earn All-American status at the NCAA Championships in March.
Hopkins, who has gone to Nationals in each of the last two years, owns an 84-34 career record and needs seven wins to match former Palmer High standout Scott Jorgensen of Boise State for fifth place all-time among Alaskans and eight wins to catch his older brother Caleb, who went 92-51 for Campbell from 2019 to 2024................
